KISL 88.7 FM in Avalon, CA (www.kislavalon.com) seeks a motivated, articulate Weather Intern to research, write, record and file daily updates on Catalina Island in time for broadcast.
The Weather Intern will research weather forecasts for Catalina Island using internet resources, create an informative and entertaining 60 second audio report, and upload to our station computer for broadcast.
The audio reports can be created on a smartphone or on a desktop/laptop computer. No special equipment is required, but professional set up is a plus. File export compatibility is a must.
Location: Avalon, or remote. The intern can be based in Avalon or on Catalina Island, however, this posistion does not need to live on Catalina Island and may work from anywhere in the United States. Familiarity with Catalina Island and Avalon is a plus.
This is an outstanding opportunity for the right person to gain actual on-air experience as a weatherperson.
Responsibilities
- Research weather forecasts for Catalina Island and the Catalina Channel
- Three to Seven days a week to broadcast. 30-60 minutes per broadcast day.
- Follow all FCC and Station guidelines, write and record the weather forecast and submit to KISL for on air broadcast before the daily deadline.
- Self motivated completion of tasks, and logging of preparation hours as well as broadcast days.
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship. The internship is for 3 months, but can be extended.
You will gain actual, on-air production experience, with a portfolio of pieces which will provide demonstrable value to your resume.
