Yo Pete, Thanks for the shout out. The Nigerian music was a fresh way to wind down my evening out here in Mesa, AZ. BTW it was around 112 degrees today, good thing I love the sun. Keep the great music coming. It may seem quiet in the booth…but we’re listening!

This is for your transmitter engineer: I just thought I’d let you know that your signal carries a fair distance inland, beyond just the South Bay and Orange County areas. I was up in a canyon in the Angeles National Forest (Little Tujunga Canyon, specifically) last Tuesday night, and I unexpectedly found your signal on the radio. Normally there’s nothing on 88.7 in the San Fernando Valley, so I was surprised to hear anything there. Your signal was slightly distorted and scratchy from distance, but still quite listenable. When I found out where you are, I was a bit surprised, because I didn’t have a line-of-sight shot to Catalina from that part of the canyon. I also didn’t know that Catalina even had any other broadcast transmitters besides KBRT-AM. The specific location from which I heard you is on Little Tujunga Canyon Road, at about 2,400 feet elevation, at Lat/Lon 34.338407 N, 118.341633 W.

Ha! @Matthew — That’s funny, I was just looking this up for the same reason. I heard this station tonight while driving. I kept thinking “Avalon, I’ve heard of that” but couldn’t remember where it was. I’m in La Crescenta, and thought I was getting this signal because it is low-clouds misty night. It was cutting in and out with a classical station, which made for some interesting listening at 2:00 a.m. Anyway, cheers from the border of Angeles National Forest.

Greetings KISL!,
It is 9:47, Monday morning, where I am listening to your streaming broadcast in Lake Jackson, TX. Just visited the Island last weekend and I’m ready to return. I am really enjoying your program and like the variety you provide. Question: my father says when he was stationed in Long Beach Back in the 50’s he would listen to the Avalon radio station. Was that you? From your listeners in Texas, keep up the good work!
