DJ Resources

KISL is a non commercial educational radio station, and we are excited that you are a part of it!
Our volunteer administration is committed to helping you succeed in learning and running a show, as well as grow with other opportunities at the station.
We are looking for a commitment from you to respect and support the station, and all the volunteers who help make up our family.

Interested in being a DJ?

We are excited to see you on the radio!

Interested in becoming a KISL DJ?
Have an idea for a show, or have no idea?
Little to no experience with audio equipment or how to use it?
Not sure you have the confidence to speak into the microphone?

We will help you through the whole process. Don’t worry about what it will sound like, or the name of the show, or what you don’t know. KISL is here to help.

We are looking for excited individuals or teams or partners or cohosts, who want to try out running their own show!

You can read our full KISL Radio Show and DJ Code of Conduct on our DJ Resources page.
Key points include:

What we expect from you.
Your Responsibilities as a volunteer DJ.

  • Respect:
    • For the studio space and equipment.
    • For your fellow DJs, their time and space in the studio, and all KISL and CIPAF volunteers.
  • Trust. We put a great deal of trust in our volunteers to access KISL unsupervised. Damages to the studio or equipment can be detrimental to KISL, as we do not have the funds to replace the equipment.
    • The Greenhouse Studio is not an open house or free for all. You have scheduled time in the studio, for preparation and your show.
  • Adherence to all FCC guidelines and regulations for our broadcasting licenses. This includes on-air content for DJs, their guests, and all music.
  • Commitment to your show. We appreciate your time volunteering as a DJ. KISL offers free DJ classes and studio time to invest in the growth, education and outreach of Catalina residents and visitors. We understand life comes up, and can accommodate changes in your schedule, but consistent no show/no call will not be tolerated.
  • Passion for what you are doing. It is your time, your voice, mean it!
  • Creativity for what you are doing, and what the station can do. Share your ideas on what can make your show, and the station, better. Know we have limited funds, and most everything is DIY, but if you want to put in the time and effort, we will help support you!
